A happy new year to all readers.

Apologies for the lack of blog writing over the last few months, things have been very busy with racing, especially over the Christmas period.

The festive period for a jockey is no different to any other time of the year.

I was riding out on Christmas morning, then luckily managed to get home and spend Christmas afternoon with my girlfriend and family up in Scotland.

Boxing Day found me at Market Rasen where I had two rides for Sue Smith, my boss. Algesiras showed lots of promise finishing 4th in his novice hurdle. He looks a nice horse for the future. Sharp Response didn’t run with his usual zest, and I pulled him up about 6 fences from home to look after him for another day.

The long cold days in the car driving hundreds of miles and not eating very much does take its toll, but I’m very lucky that recently I’ve had a couple of winners to pay for it all.

New Year’s Day at Catterick was successful with Tumbling Dice winning the 3 mile Novice handicap steeplechase. He’s a horse that’s been frustrating, but he finally got his head in front and managed to win for connections. He runs again this week and I’m hopeful that he can back up his New Year’s Day performance.

With 2022 here it’s an exciting time and racing continues to be busy. I am looking forward to working closely with Gemma and Pippa from Stablemate to help promote the new biodegradable wipes and other excellent products.

It’s great to be writing for Stablemate readers again, and I hope 2022 is going to be successful for us all.
