STABLEMATE Product Review

Please take the time to read this in depth detailed review by Tim Varey of BATSFORD STUD

STABLEMATE EQUAROMA

The EQUAROMA spray has a fresh clean aroma derived from pure calming Lavender and uplifting Eucalyptus essential oils. This excellent stable deodoriser provides a relaxing herbaceous fragrance which can help both horses and humans to relax and unwind.

EQUAROMA can be used as part of regular daily cleaning routine: With the horse out of the stable carefully and thoroughly remove any soiled bedding. Finely mist the whole area liberally and evenly before adding new bedding.

It can be used as part of your Complete/Deep Clean regime: With the horse out of the stable and after complete removal of all bedding and subsequent deep clean, spray the entire stall before and after the addition of new bedding.

EQUAROMA can also be used in empty trailers, horseboxes and temporary stalls prior to use.

EQUAROMA is packed in convenient handy size bottles fitted with ergonomic trigger spray that has an adjustable nozzle to provide different spray patterns.

Instructions for use

To operate the trigger spray nozzle 1L bottle:

  • Grip the trigger spray as you would to use and with the nozzle facing away from you turn the nozzle end clockwise to open.
  • With only a slight turn clockwise the spray will produce a fine mist.
  • The more you turn the nozzle clockwise the less atomisation occurs and eventually a focused jet is created.
  • To close the nozzle simply turn it anticlockwise until tight.

STABLEMATE DIS-IN-FECT

Effervescent chlorine tablets providing a cost-effective disinfectant with high dilution rates, accurate dosing and long shelf life.

DEFRA Approved and validated to be effective against Foot and Mouth, Swine Vesicular Disease, Avian Influenza, bacteria, mycobacteria, spores and fungi. The BHSS, STEPS leaflet available from www.bhsscotland.org.uk gives general guidance on hygiene and isolation procedures for Strangles/Suspected Strangles cases and advises that cleaning requires “a disinfectant approved by Defra for general purpose under the Diseases of Animals (Disinfectants) Order 1978”.

• Versatile for daily routine disinfection use in all livestock facilities, stables, kennels, markets, holding pens, transport and veterinary.
• Long shelf life, up to 5 years, waste from discarding unused out of date product should be eliminated.
• Easy to handle and dose accurately by simply adding a tablet to the specified volume of water for the required application, see the tables below.
• Cost effective with considerable savings over other disinfectant systems.

DIS-IN-FECT independently tested and proven effective against STRANGLES and RINGWORM! See downloads section below for full details.

  • Thoroughly wet the cleaned surface with the disinfection solution by the most suitable means i.e. trigger spray or disposable cloth.
  • Check the solution strength weekly using test strips. Repeat addition when strength drops below the recommended amount of available chlorine.

Footbath & Wheel Disinfection

STABLEMATE by AGMA DIS-IN-FECT is a DEFRA approved disinfectant recommended for use in the following areas:

1. Boot Baths – All personnel should pre clean boots and use appropriate disinfectant boot baths on entering the yard, between barns and on leaving the site. Use a DIS-IN-FECT doseage of 1000ppm checking solution on preparation and daily with AGMA test strips, replenishing when required but at least twice a week.
2. Vehicle Wheel baths – Wheel wash & disinfect facilities should be provided at the entrance and exit to the Yard or Farm. Use a DIS-IN-FECT doseage of 1000ppm, check with AGMA test strips on preparation and daily replenishing when required but at least twice a week. Check Wheel bath manufacturers instructions for product compatibility and correct volume of solution to place into the wheel bath in order to accommodate all sizes of wheels & tread patterns.

A STABLECLEANSE spray and a scrubbing brush is an ideal quick and easy way to preclean your boots. Rinse with clean water and squeegee or shake to remove the excess before moving on to the footbath.
The same applies to vehicle wheels which will also need to be cleaned and rinsed before passing through the wheel disinfectant bath. Spray with STABLECLEANSE then scrub followed by a rinse with clean water or use a mechanical jet wash with BOXFRESH and then rinse with water only setting.

Direct all washings to drainage system.

TAKE HOME MESSAGE:
Remember ‘C’ comes before ‘D’, Clean then Disinfect.
A quick splash of a dirty boot in a footbath is not likely to accomplish anything except to give a false sense of security.

IMPORTANT!

  • IMPORTANT!: The fact that many disinfectants are deactivated by organic matter means that cleaning with a detergent prior to using the disinfectant is a very important stage of the disinfecting process.According to a review by V.J. Fotheringham, cleaning alone removes about 90% of bacteria, while a further 6-7% is removed by disinfection. In other words, spraying a dirty wall or floor with disinfectant won’t be very effective at killing pathogens. It is therefore recommended that prior to using Stablemate DIS-IN-FECT that a detergent clean is performed. Stablemate cleaners STABLECLEANSE or BOXFRESH are ideal.

STABLEMATE BOXFRESH

A pine based multipurpose detergent concentrate with excellent cleaning properties that cleans and deodorises leaving a fresh pine aroma after use.

Suitable for use on most hard surfaces in stables, horseboxes, stall mats, floors, walls, doors, worktops, ceramics and paintwork.

BOXFRESH is packed in 1 litre bottles which are easy to handle and fitted with a precision dosing system that allows the user to dispense 20 ml, 40 ml or 60 ml doses of product to control usage without the need for expensive dosing equipment. With accurate dosing assured it is a straight forward process to produce 5, 10 and 15 litres of cleaning solution to clean large areas.

Instructions for using the precision dosing bottle

Ensure the cap is tightly closed and follow these instructions:

Note when adjusting the dose by tipping the bottle in Step 2 it is the guide line on the left that you use so that when upright you have the correct dose which can then be checked against the level line on the right side. In the case of the 20 ml dose the left side guide line is right at the bottom of the chamber.

A video showing this process can be viewed on line by clicking this link to vimeo.com

Application and Dosing Instruction Rates

Dosing rates:

Add 20 ml to 10 litres of water* for general maintenance and hard surface cleaning.

Add 40ml or 60 ml to 10 litres of water* for heavily soiled surfaces.

Add 60ml to 10 litres or 120ml to 20 litres for use via a high-pressure washer.

* The use of warm water, if available, will aid the cleaning process.

The cleaning process should commence with the removal of any bedding or gross debris from the area to be cleaned.

Manual cleaning – Mopping / Brush

Make up a working solution in a suitable bucket.

Apply the working solution liberally to the surface.

Allow a short dwell time of a minute or two to allow the solution to soften the soils.

Then agitate the surface with a stiff brush to aid loosening.

Finally rinse with clean water via swilling, hose or pressure washer.

Via high pressure washing equipment

Produce a working solution and add to the chemical tank on the equipment or in a suitable container if the equipment is fitted with a chemical pick up pipe.

Set the dosage rate on the equipment to the midpoint which will allow increasing or reducing if required.

Apply the chemical via low pressure.

Allow a short dwell time of a minute or two to allow the solution to soften the soils.

Then rinse at high pressure.

Note if the equipment has a hot mode this will aid the cleaning process.

After cleaning should disinfection be required then use STABLEMATE DIS-IN-FECT.
