January is here and it’s a busy time for a jump jockey in the north. Christmas is over and it’s time to get the head down. For me January time is more of a waiting game. Racing in the north is steady and trying to get rides is a difficult task.

January has been quiet for me with only 12 rides. Musselburgh has been the busiest track this month with three meetings and I’ve been lucky enough to be riding at each one. Last weekend was a busy one down at Musselburgh at the Cheltenham trails meeting. On Saturday No No Mac trained by Ian Duncan finished a very close third (see photo above) and Lucinda Russell’s gemologist finished 5th. Sunday was a quieter day with just the one ride, Order of thistle trained by Lucinda. He ran a great race up in class finishing a close 5th in the Pertemps Network Group qualifier.
